Newman's Evaluation:Episode five

How did you attract/address your audience?

We addressed our audience as vaguely intellectual, We did this by using complex language in the writers copy which would be fairly easy to understand to the average reader. This was to fit the demographic of the reader profile as students to young males. We also used exaggerated new music stories to get the reader interested and then use a journalistic style of writing similar to the newspaper 'The Times'

Away i attracted my audience was by using Music news stories blown out of proportion to entise the reader, this similar to what they do in the women's magazine publication 'Heat'. By getting the reader to have a common interest in the article they would like to read and then exaggerating the story to make it more entertaining than it would have been with the correct facts.

Newman's Evaluation: Episode four

what have you learnt about technologies from the production of this product?
I have use a wide array of technology such as a DSLR Camera, we did this by hiring it out by using a small independent business that we have recently befriended. We had some difficulty when we were on the photo shoot in the alley with ED Ache. When it was raining and the light was coming from behind the camera; as the camera has automated focus and flash this leaves the camera choosing wheter or not to take the photo. However the light was coming from two different sources behind and infront of the camera, this confused the camera what to focus on and to decide if it needed flash or not (also the rain added another element of difficulty to the operation). We resolved the problem by using an umbrella to shield the light and the rain that was distracting the camera so much.

Another Piece of technology i used for the project is a Apple Macintosh computer. The Macs are specalised in the field of media, thus for: videos, music and pictures. I used the Macs as they are faster, smarter and more reliable than the Microsoft PC's. I feel as i have a mastered the Macs at a basic level with little time to adjust myself to the new technology on account that i can use most of the software on the Computers.

I also used the technology called photoshop on the Macs. I beleive that i have quite a level of skill on photoshop as i have a long time to adjust to the tools on the program however it's formatted differently on the Macs with only having the one click option. I successfully made a beliveable picture of Jay (Kalpesh) floating on a cloud over the City of Manchester. I did this by using an old picture of an ariel picture of Manchester from a previous trip as the background, then used the cloud effect on the 'Effects' tool, then changed the perspective of the cloud to make it look like it was flat, after i then chose the paint brush tool to create the effect of shading on the cloud.I then cut around a picture of Jay (Kalpesh) with a tool then made a new layer. When the layers were aligned, anon I duplicated the layer of Jay (Kalpesh) then removed all of the detail within the layer to create a colourless outline, which later filled in with a solid black colour as the shadow, in it's form I decreased the percentage of the tranparency of the layer to create the illusion of a shadow, which i dragged the layer below the layer of the cut out Jay (Kalpesh).

Newman's Evaluation: Episode three

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product?
Referring to the Reader Profile, our main market would be in UK by most of the journalistists being in the UK and there knowledge being on British bands. this will exclued the media group Bauer Media as they are an international (Kerrang!)l, however there is a chance that there could be other versions in other countries such as the likes of Vouge and Esquire magazine.

The reader profile would be sterotyped as British, so with a possible strong market for this magazine in the UK, but also sold in the US as an abhoernt market but with limited stock. This is a popular method with the company IPC Media, However they already have the popular indie/ new music magazine which is quite simular to Rock & Tumble, this may be frowned apon in the market as the Media company is making profit on two very simular magazines.

In conclusion the most likely candidate for distributing the magazine would be IPC Media, as they have a succseful reputation and lots of experience with music magazines.

Scarratts Evaluation!

Scarratts Evaluation Part 7!

What have you learnt from the prelimanary task to the full product?
After producing the prelimanary task the final full product has improved immensely.
More and in depth research was put into the research stage of production which in turn helped massively when it came to construction as it was more easy to depict what was needed and what wasn't. More research also led to a more professional standard and raised worth ethic. The proffesinalism that was reached also meant time organisation was much more controlled and organised.
Compared to the prelimanary task there was a considerable amount more of drafts which meant that the best designs were picked.
After producing the contrustion stage of the prelimanary we found that photo's were limited and therefore when it came to the full product we made sure that there was allot more photos to choose from and took the images from more interesting and different angles to create more media conventionally images.
Additionally, when looking back at the past questionnaire we found that some questions were misinterprated, when given some screen shots of fronts covers and asked to rate each one respondents simply circled which front cover they found most appealing, therefore this time we decided that the respondent should just circle which one they found best.
We also made sure that the questions werent leading questions and had a balance of quantative and qualatitive data.
The skills i had when using photoshop have developed greatly since the prelimanary task and therefore has a created a certain sharpness and clarity with the full product in which the prior task lacked.
The variety of media technologies used has been widely opened aswell when compared.
Another point, that has helped with the developments, is the knowledge of how the media world works and how publishing houses/ existing magazines are used. With this knowledge a much better magazine has been created.

Scarratts Evaluations Part 6!

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
I have learnt how to successfully manipulate images and photographs using photo editing software to develop a final image that is designed specifically in order for the image to have the greatest impact and to the standards of existing magazines.
After creating these images i then learnt how to carefully place them infront or behind other pictures and text to priotise importance.

To take these photographs in the first place we used a DSLR camera and sometimes using a tri-pod capture the images.
We did find however during the night time and in the rain the camera could'nt focus automatically on the objects due to the rain and back source of lighting, therefore to overcome this we covered the camera by an umbrella.
To upload the photographs from the camera to the camera we took the memory card from the camera and put it into the memory card reader in the printer and then transerred then into a newly made folder in the computer named "Photoshoot2010". To transfer photos from one another using a USB stick or using hotmail and sending the folder by email. Additionally, after the photo's were uploaded to blogger you could choose to simply right click the images and save the images from the internet. Another way of using the computers were by taking screen shots in order to create evidence.
When uploading some drafts and working copies we used a scanner to upload them onto the computer. http://httphttps://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiq25L8ulBTvIEI8U8aCSraQwsDQeuhuJlAqBCqDqVCxARHY2i0Oh577pFFUsCqQzMnaDR_JqvQrO2LW6GCH8739KFPyEN8025SmS3GHpthOB_cfWMa59ZsWtq5f3wArkQB-FHlGJFxf3qy/s1600-h/003.jpg
During analysis of other magazines, using publisher i learnt how to use tools that meant it was easier to identify things within the evaluation of the pictures and create text boxes in order to hold the information. http://httphttps://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUoAhhybrWLY3YZBWHkbBStOESjuIl_WSthDn7agT0h9g5E7dCiUch8bb6iNsBitSdDfDY4s8B9LIRtTCnYNg6bclgZ1dk3pTfnY6NoEorCqv2-fGVCYIu0MWN0q3QenonYEvpDtHBUiPM/s1600/Media+audience+nuts.jpg
Other ways in which media was used in this production was by using slide share which is an online internet site which allows users to upload power point presentations and upload them onto other sites such as facebook, twitter and Buzz. http://http//welovemediaoyea.blogspot.com/2010/04/scarratts-evaluation.html

Josh's Evaluation Part 1

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challange forms and conventions of real media products?

We decided that our brand identity would be called ‘Rock and Tumble - New Music’. At first we were going to stick with just ‘Rock and Tumble’ but we later realised that this title didn’t completely represent the genre we were trying to focus on - new music. However we wanted to be able to incorporate the rock element as well to broaden the audience for our magazine.
We tried to stick to classic rock-type colours which are often found in successful music magazines e.g. NME (http://www.nme.com/images/84_NME_cover_L250306.jpg) and Q (http://linhamr3m4.files.wordpress.com/2009/09/lily-allen-q-mag.jpg). So we decided to use black, white, red and grey as the main colours for the basic outline of our house style. I think the main reason that our magazine challenges conventions is because it’s main focus is on new music rather than the complete mainstream. So the specific niche audience may be there in the form of cult/underground music lovers.
