Josh's Evaluation Part 1

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challange forms and conventions of real media products?

We decided that our brand identity would be called ‘Rock and Tumble - New Music’. At first we were going to stick with just ‘Rock and Tumble’ but we later realised that this title didn’t completely represent the genre we were trying to focus on - new music. However we wanted to be able to incorporate the rock element as well to broaden the audience for our magazine.
We tried to stick to classic rock-type colours which are often found in successful music magazines e.g. NME (http://www.nme.com/images/84_NME_cover_L250306.jpg) and Q (http://linhamr3m4.files.wordpress.com/2009/09/lily-allen-q-mag.jpg). So we decided to use black, white, red and grey as the main colours for the basic outline of our house style. I think the main reason that our magazine challenges conventions is because it’s main focus is on new music rather than the complete mainstream. So the specific niche audience may be there in the form of cult/underground music lovers.
