MORE INTIAL IDEAS?!

For Rock and tumble i have used contrasting colours to stand out to the reader as this will make them pay attention to the magazine so that there would be a chance of them buying the magazine. I have used the red as it relates to the readers passion for music and there lust of learning more about music. I have used the '&' in a 1950's feel about it which is when Rock & Roll started. Rock and tumble is a play on words of Rock and Roll which hopefully will appeal to the readers.
I have used Red and black again as they do contrast and the red is for passion. The name Is again another play on words of 'Indie' and 'Individual'. The cubes used in the font make the brand look 3-D which makes more appealing to the eye. This is my favored masthead as it fits the brief more than the other designs

initial ideas!

This is a picture of our model Being carried by an audience by a stagedive. This is to make the model look praised by lots of people to raise the proflie of the character, to make him look more

Initial Ideas!

This is a picture of a man being blown away by his own musical fusion, This wind lines are minpulated by Photo shop. We will get a model who fits with 'Indie' Sterotype and a expensive looking guitar for connotations of wealth. The model will be shot from a low angle postion to show that they are a brilliant artist and have superiority to the reader.

Initial ideas!

We have used an enigma in this issue as this will make readers curious and will buy the magazine, we have used the colourful background against the black and white model is for the contrast to make it stand out against all the other magazines on the shelf. We will dress our model in fashionable 'Indie' clothes as this is our target audience. Also if we dress our model in 'Indie' clothing the model is meant to be looked upon with great fondness and as a role model, so it is also meant to inspire people who read the magazine as that is what music is. ;)

Montage draft

The far right image was taken at a close proximity from a low angle of someone shouting down to a microphone. The middle image is of a person on drums taken from the side. The third image was taken at a bloc party gig of the guitarist. The image of the drummer was selected by using the magic wand tool and selecting the areas around him and the drum set and deleting it, you can select more on the tool if you click shift on the keyboard and click on the image using the mouse, after this some of the image was selected using the lasso tool and then filtered using the motion blur and changing the amount of blur to 39. I then went around the image using the

Miss birds lesson work-Scarratt

Mens health- the image of the double spread article takes up three quarters of the two pages making it very large in size and stands out immensly. It shows Gerard Butler in a long shot image standing fiercely strong against a wall of fire and dressed in an all black suit.
This image has demographics of an age range of men between 25 and 50 who are finicially secure and socially strong who like to look and feel good. They also need to have disposible income. I think this because woman wouldn't be particularly interested in how this man rose up to where he is now, genders prefer to listen to success stories of the same sex because it gives the individual power to drive forwards in their life. I believe they would be between this age range and hold a high social status because the all black suit symbolizes power and sophistication, which if the audience relates to this article they too would have these qualities. The fierce look and standing behind the heat of the fire could also show how people often withstand heated situations when in a high position and have to be seen as a firm person who's not easily startled.
The main head line was "Call to Action". The word action is a very strong word which enforces the idea of physicallity. Men stereotypically are supposed to be physically dominant over woman and therefore men are more likely to be attracted to this article rather than woman. The fact that its written in bubble writting however contrasts the idea of urgency and replaces it with ease which is a nice change for those who are busy at work or education. Attracting those who are in education or at work.
Two bubble background surround the main heading and caption, one blue and the other red. These to colours are primary colours so every can relate to them. However, the two colours are very contrasting in meaning, blue offers stability and calmness whereas red is the colour of passion and danger. So by merging the two you get the average man who has to work ordered but also with the passion to get the work done.

evaluation

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms of conventions of real media products?

On our magazine front cover we have the paradigmatic elements in which other magazine use.
In the magazine we used a barcode, using a barcode is essential in order for the magazine to be sold in shops electronically. We took the barcode from another magazine simply by cropping around the barcode and pasting it onto our magazine in the corner of the magazine which is where most barcodes get located because of the lack of appeal it had to the reader. It only matters to the companies and not the consumers.Like every other magazine we have a brand identity, this is crucial for the audience as it builds a relation with them. When they walk over to the magazine section of a shop they can identify the magazine straight away through the name and the house style. “LOADDOWN” is the title of our magazine. Other products used in the magazine is pictures, by taking our own photos, uploading them and then editing them on Photoshop allowed us to manipulate the images how we needed them and place them appropriately on the page where they had the best effect. Furthermore, we also included the date and price on the front cover, this gives the audience the set information they need in order to buy the magazine. Whether it’s a new or old issue and if they can afford to buy the magazine or not. The edition is a November edition and costs £2.00. Seeing as the magazine was aimed towards students we realised that students don’t have a lot of disposable income and therefore decided to challenge the industry market by having a lesser priced magazine for the same quality and quantity.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Our main aim was to be published by a company such as the IPC because with their knowledge and history they would be able to improve our magazine even further through experience. And after researching what magazines they publish our genre of magazine would be perfect for them because ours is loosely based upon “Nuts” which IPC publish. They would also be able to get advertisements In the magazine bringing in even more income. Through other magazine they already publish they would be able to advertise our magazine through other more popular magazine increasing the chance of interest in our magazine.

How did you attract/address your audience?

The key attraction on the front cover is the full length mid-shot image of a man who is dressed in shirt, tie and glasses who is pointing and glaring out of the magazine. The reason why he is looking and pointing straight into the camera is so that the reader feels as if he’s directly talking to them, it builds a relationship straight away. Even if it may seem to be a bad one it still encourages the reader to find out why he might be doing this. Therefore the reader will pick up the magazine and read it to find out further, therefore it entrances the reader to read more making it effective as it grasps the audiences attention. There’s only two images on the front cover and this is to enhance the effectiveness of the large image even more.Above the brand identity is the slogan which reads “Get the monthly Low down on HIghdown”. This has a slight pun in it as in high down it says “HI” which in turn introduces the magazine to the reader as it stands out among the rest and it feels as if its welcoming you inside to read more. It’s a gentle way of grabbing the attention of the reader and effectively eases the reader into reading more.Additionally word play is used on high down as it is contrasted with low down which is conclusively the opposite. The use of low down is to build a relationship between audiences who are of the “gossip” nature because when you get the low down your gaining information on something that you necessarily shouldn’t be. Therefore this attracts the audience of people who are looking for gossip. The text in this is black surrounding in a box of yellow, this is not only to make it stand out and make it more exciting than black on white but also because black is usually recognised as the colour of death but compared with such a radiant colour as yellow it gives it more a happy nature. The brand identity “Loaddown” is blue and silvery grey. Blue is a primary colour and seen as calm and balanced and when contrasted with the silvery grey colour which is modern and technological makes it seem as though technology is easy and peaceful not something to be struggled against but something to be enjoyed giving the magazine a happy ambience. Also the word Loaddown relates to people who are surrounded by technology (which is stereotypically most of the modern generations. Students) because when you download software you gain information and new information which is the aim of the magazine. One of the captions is “world exclusive” this is aimed to attract the audience because stereotypically most teenagers and young adults aspire to be apart of the celeb world and when the world is suggested in the media world its mostly assumed to be in the “celebrity world” so when the read exclusive it makes the reader feel as if there apart of a special club where they gain special information which others can’t making them very interested and read more.

Who is the target audience?

Older students from year 11 up to university students involoved in learning about the world trends, school work, and other gossip.

HALF OF THE EVALUATION!!!

Our media product uses gossip as a central form of interest of readers. We use this as this is a student magazine and everyone who would by it cause they no the people in the magazine, It's shown with a different light to maybe as the reader would see the person in a different light. On the front cover we have used awkward quotations to intrigue the reader as what has happened, it has challenged the 'Girls Gossip mags' and made it for young men, usually the men would be the abhorrent audience so we are reversing this as i believe it is a gap in the market. This media product is different to make it stand out to it's audience.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?
It represents them as an insider, as it has the gossip to inform people with the knowledge to share with people.

IT'S A CONSTRUCTION ANAYLSIS

This is the original picture that i have taken, I used the conventional strip lighting to make the picture appear 'key light'. Plus making the model wear a watch has connotations of wealth and money. I had taken the picture from a low angle to suggest superiority, Also the glaze is directly at the viewer to make a connection with them. The 'model' has his arms crossed this doesn't welcome the reader so this is another superiority suggestion. The tie leads the eye to the models face.
As i deleted the original ' green tie' Dewhurst, THIS WILL HAVE TO DO!!! i deleted the background by cropping around the model, this leaves less to erase. The by lightening the picture by going to 'enhance' then 'adjust lighting' this is so the magic eraser is easier to select and delete against the contrasting colours. Then when it is close enough to the model being closest to the model and the white back ground using the 'magnetic lasso' to select the minor interferences and delete them. When it is as close as it can be you can use a smaller rubber to get rid of tiny details.
I changed the tie by selecting the magnetic lasso and going around the top of the tie above the arms. Then by using the 'selection brush' to select the rest of the tie. Then when it has been selected i went to 'enhance' then to adjust colour, then replace the colour. I replaced the colour to blue to go with our masthead theme and this also makes the model stand out more.

NEWMANS EVALUATION!!!!!!!

I have recently made a questioner for a student magazine for my media coursework. The questions consisted of 'What is your age group?' to find the demographic for the age group of the magazine which will be purchased, 'Do you by magazines?' to see the amount of people who by magazines. Then i gave the questioned to rate there favorite reading materials, i used the rating system from 1-4, 1 being the strongest. I gave them a variety of choices such as: Heat, Cosmopolitan, The Sun and The Daily Telegraph. This was to see the style of the writing the majority preferred for example if they liked the daily telegraph the most popular I would write the magazine in a informative and formal fashion, If they chose The Sun i would write the magazine in an 'whimsical' fashion also if they Cosmopolitan i would just write about sex. For the 5th question 'What is your favorite part of the magazine?' they had a variety of options to pick:Interviews, Problem Pages, Free gifts, models, news and other please state. I included the 'models' as I knew that people (boys) would have wrote it anyway. The most popular result was 'Interview'. The final question I asked was 'What's your preferred hobby or interest?' this was to investigate what could be a feature of the magazine, the options were: music,TV,Gaming,Gossip,Looking at models and other please state with the 'looking at models' this was with the same reason as last, despite this in the 'other, please state:' someone managed to write 'porn'. The result of this question was looking at models.
